Tried & Tested: New vegan menu at The Hub 7!
Hub 7 in cluster M has long offered seven different cuisines and menus to JLT foodies. Far more than a multi-cuisine restaurant, Hub 7 actually features seven different kitchens. Every kitchen has its own speciality chef and guests can enjoy dishes from Japan, India, Pakistan, Philippines, and China. There’s also a bakery and you can grab a pizza. Add to that a separate extensive Bubble Tea menu and you certainly won’t get bored.
To cater for Dubai’s
growing vegetarian and vegan food scene, Hub 7 recently expanded its culinary
offerings even further and introduced a 100% vegan menu. Two vegan menus, to be
precise, because you can chose from Japanese or Filipino dishes. We popped down
to take a bite.
The advantage of cluster M is that parking is very easy, because it’s not one of JLT’s busier clusters. Just head down the stairs next to the mini-golf course and you can’t miss the restaurant at the bottom of the Icon Tower 1 by the lake – it’s big and it’s red.
Once inside, we were given an iPad menu and clicked on “Vegan”. We were then presented with a choice of either Japanese vegan dishes or, intriguingly, Filipino vegan food. While we mulled this over, we slurped on a Blueberry Bubble Tea with popping Mango bubbles – refreshing and tasty!
For starters, we went with the Tofu Bites and the Mario Rolls from the Japanese menu. Both portions (as indeed all portions at the restaurant) were huge. The Tofu Bites came with two dipping sauces and had a nice consistency, even if (without the sauces) they lacked a little in the taste department. The Mario Rolls on the other hand were not only nicely presented, but also tasted great. Think plant-based sushi topped with mushrooms.
Next, we had a Katsu Curry, which came with sticky rice and the typical Katsu Curry sauce. This, too, tasted great and the rice had a nice consistency.
The dish that surprised us most, though, was the Filipino Potato “Steak” – not much to look at, but a fabulously tasty combination of potatoes, which retained a lot of bite, tofu, and sauce.
Hub 7’s vegan menu is the brainchild of the restaurant owner’s daughter, who is a vegetarian looking to go vegan. According to her, the newly introduced vegan dishes are only the beginning and she is keen to expand the menus and introduce even more choice.
If you’re vegan or vegetarian in Dubai or are looking for a venue that offers ample choices for meat eaters and veggies, Hub 7 makes a good choice. There are very few places in Dubai, at this price point at least, that offer such a wide range of food options and cuisines.
You’ll find Hub
7’s vegan menus on our Facebook page and on Instagram. The restaurant is also listed on Happy Cow.
