The First-Ever Dubai Simit Day in JLT
The humble, yet oh so tasty simit is taking the world by storm and now, for the first time ever, has its own day, courtesy of Simit & Co in JLT, the home of the simit. Sunday, 12th June 2022 is the first-ever simit day and residents and visitors are invited to enjoy and celebrate Turkey’s best-loved bread, which is making its way in the world.
Rumour has it that simit, the iconic Turkish bread that is shaped like a ring and crusty on the outside, while deliciously soft on the inside, is the next bagel and set to take the world by storm. Simit & Co, the Turkish bakery and café concept in the heart of Dubai’s JLT neighbourhood wants Dubai to fall in love with simit and is putting on the first-ever Simit Day – a celebration of the ring-shaped goodness, a.k.a simit.
On Sunday, 12th June 2022, from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., Simit & Co invites Dubai residents and visitors to enjoy a free, freshly baked, simit and learn more about the history, versatility, and health benefits of Turkey’s favourite bread. Anyone wanting to be part of Dubai’s first-ever Simit Day in JLT should register online at https://cutt.ly/simitdayjlt before 12th June and, in return, not only will receive a great tasting simit, but also get access to exclusive Simit & Co and Kitchens Republik offers on the day and throughout the summer.
The history of simit has long roots in Anatolia when the Ottoman Empire reigned. At that time, flour warehouses were known as “Simithane” and the sultan's oven was called the simit oven. The ring-shaped bread simit made from the flour was aptly named “Simid-I Halka” (“Circle”).
Simit & Co is part of Kitchens Republik in cluster U, Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Simit Day participants will find plenty of parking just outside the restaurant and also have the opportunity to order dishes from Kitchens Republik’s other signature brands: London Fish & Chips, Qwik by Anatolia, and Tawook Heroes.
